Written by Discovery Village | Mar 10, 2025 4:00:00 AM

Here's a surprising statistic from The Packer: 54% of surveyed consumers said they purchased blueberries in the last year, which is up from 37% in 2023. We're not sure why these fruits are so popular all of a sudden, but it's a good trend!

If this has you craving blueberries, hold on a minute before you drive over to the store. Wouldn't you rather have fresh blueberries picked from a farm? Well, if you visit Starkey Blueberry Farm, then you can.

If you're in Starkey, Florida, and love to indulge in local attractions, then don't miss out on this farm. We'll tell you all about it in this article.

About Starkey Blueberry Farm

Starkey Blueberry Farm is located at 10730 Lake Blanche Dr and has been there since 1920. Considering that it's over a century old, it's certainly a farm with history!

What's really amazing is that all this time, it's been passed down from generation to generation. When you visit, you'll see how much love's been poured into the lands over the years.

When Can You Go?

As far as U-pick farms go, Starkey Blueberry Farm is one of the best. Typically, you can pick their blueberries from the spring all the way to the beginning of summer, which is when most fruits and veggies ripen.

This 45-acre berry farm grows thousands of blueberries every spring, so you can have so much outdoor fun when the weather warms up. In fact, it's one of the best family activities to do with your children and grandkids, as all you'll need is a bucket and high spirits to pick berries to your heart's content. We'd even say it's a safe and fun activity for seniors with Alzheimer's.

What Other Fruits Do They Have?

As we've just said, Starkey Blueberry Farm is a berry farm, so they don't just have blueberries. You can also pick strawberries and blackberries on their premises; there are 1.5 acres dedicated to blackberries specifically!

Just make sure that you check their social media pages or call ahead before heading over. As you can imagine, supplies are limited, and they may be all picked out before you arrive.

On that note, if you enjoy blueberries and blackberries a lot and want to have some at home, the farm has plants available for purchase. There's a limited supply and they only have these plants during springtime.

Don't want to bother with picking or planting? Then you'll be pleased to know that the farm has pre-picked blueberries too. The price will depend on availability, and to avoid disappointment, you should place an order by phone (727-372-6440) or email (starkeyblueberryfarm@gmail.com).

How to Prepare for Your Outdoor Fun

You can always turn up without prepping, but we wouldn't recommend that. You'll be outside doing physical work for a long period of time, and you don't want to overexert your body.

You should bring plenty of water since you'll have to stay hydrated. In addition, pack a hat and sunscreen, so you'll stay safe from the sun's strong UV rays.

Wear comfortable close-toed shoes too. The farm says that the land can be uneven and muddy, so don't wear anything you can't afford to get dirty.

Starkey Blueberry Farm provides guests with buckets, so you won't need to bring your own. You can bring your own bags, but they've got some for purchase as well.

To avoid the hot sun, they suggest that you get there early in the morning. Plus, you'll have first pick on the berries!

Can You Bring Your Pet?

For many people, pets are part of the family, and they want to bring their furry friends everywhere. And outdoor activities are optimal for dogs since they get to bask in the sun and run around with you.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to bring Fido with you to Starkey Blueberry Farm. Because there are food and safety regulations regarding their premises, they don't allow pets on the property.

Other Things to Do at Starkey Blueberry Farm

Starkey Blueberry Farm isn't just a farm; it's so much more! Whether you explore while blueberry picking or return for another outing, it's up to you, but here are the other things available.

The Market is a 2-minute drive or 10-minute walk away from the farm. It originally started as a small market offering only fresh-picked berries, but it's grown to have a wide variety of products showcasing local agriculture. They include:

  • Fresh eggs
  • Local honey
  • Handmade items from local vendors

In addition, you can grab house-made cold brews and homemade ice cream to cool off on hot days.

The Barn is a great place to get beers, wines, and ciders to drink on the premises and bring home to stock your fridge. There's happy hour and live music, as well as engaging classes that people of all ages can participate in.

So grab a drink and park yourself on one of the cozy rocking chairs in the front. It's the perfect way to spend time with friends and family.
